KBKMartialArts1This year’s Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame (UMAHoF) World Championship Tournament and Awards Banquet was held in San Antonio TX, July 15th- 17th and a local Martial Arts School, KBKMA, secured a few coveted awards.

The UMAHoF has a few objectives:

  • *Recognize and reward those who make significant contributions to the martial arts.
  • *Establish professional standards for achievements in the martial arts.
  • *Enrich and empower the youth of our nation.

UMAHoF holds an annual 3 day event & expo with Seminars by Masters and Grandmasters in their field along with a special guest. This year the special guest was UFC Fight Night fighter Christian Sanchez and Champion Adam Guerra, along with a few others.

Kyoshi Bob Brewer gave a seminar on the nun chucks that had Masters and Grandmaster trying to do the moves his Asst. Evan Cain was showing. Sibok Evan Cain is 14-years-old and has 3 years in the Kaju Bujutsu Kwai Martial Arts system and now holds the rank of Ikkyu- Brown Belt in KBKMA-AMID.

During the seminar the UFC fighter Sanchez ‘rolled’ with Evan and gave him a few pointer’s for his matches the next day as did World Champion Adam Guerra from Guerra’s House of Warrior’s in Houston.  Although Adam knew he had students that might fight with Evan the next day, he showed Evan a few things in the spirit of the martial arts.  Adam is also a good friend and Brother in the UMAHoF.

KBKMartialArts3Saturday at the UMAHoF World Championship Tournament KBKMA had three 3 students competing.  Brown Belt Evan Cain won the UMAHoF Grappling World Championship & Belt.  He also won a 1st place Gold Medal and a 2nd place Silver Medal as he fought 6 matches that were 5 minutes each and had to fight 4 of Guerra’s House of Warriors students to place & win.  Evan won 2 matches by choke out and one under 9 Seconds.  Evan won matches with an Arm Bar’s and a Leg Lock.  One match went the whole 5 minutes and was a draw, the crowd loved it.  Evan’s belt reads, “Teen Absolute UMAHoF Grappling World Champion 2010.”  This was Evan’s first tournament. Those at KBKMA now call him ” Evan ‘Candyman’ Cain.”

Students and Asst. Cody Lewis “Won Silver 2nd place” in Sparring and in Advanced Brown Belt in the 17 and up division.  Victor Trevino won the Bronze 3rd place in the 18 & up Black Belt Sparring.  This was Victor’s and Cody’s first tournament as well.  Kyoshi took the Gold in Exc. Senior 46 + in Weapons.

Overall KBKMA had a good day, 3 students competed and 3 students won.  KBKMA had another KBKMA Sensei inducted into the UMAHoF Saturday night after the Tournament to cap off the weekend.
