“Horrible” Weather Contributes to Low Voter Turnout During Primary Early Voting

Written by Amanda Coers – You can blame it on the rain. And the icy conditions. According to a recent email from the Brown County Elections Office, just under 500 voters turned out to cast their ballots last week for the 2018 Primary Election.

[adrotate group=”8″]

“We only had 478 voters this whole week and only 47 on Wednesday, the ice day,” said Larry Franks with the elections office. “I am really hoping that next week we could have at least 800 per day.”

Even with a higher number of voters participating in the early election, it would still be around 20% of the registered voters for the area.

On the ballot locally, the incumbent Brown County Judge Ray West is challenged by Dr. Paul Lilly, and Precinct 2 Commissioner incumbent Joel Kelton is challenged by Eddie Lord.

Also on the Republican ballot:

  • US Representative for District 11 Mike Conaway is challenged by Paul Myers
  • State Representative for District 60 Mike Lang is challenged by Jim Largent and Gregory Risse

Republican Sample Ballot:

Additional sample ballots can be viewed on the Brown County Elections Office website:  Precinct 1 Republican   Precinct 1 Dem  Precinct 2 Republican   Precinct 2 Dem  Precinct 3 Republican  Precinct 3 Dem   Precinct 4 Republican  Precinct 4 Dem
