Brownwood News –  Longtime Internal Medicine physician, Stephen Oines was recently honored as Physician of the 2nd Quarter 2017 by the staff of Brownwood Regional Medical Center (BRMC).  He was nominated and voted on by the staff for his dedication to his patients and the kindness shown not only to his patients but the respect and kindness shown to the staff members.

Dr. Oines announced his retirement in October and stated, “I have loved being a doctor and will miss my patients and colleagues. Practicing medicine has been my passion and it will be hard to replace. But due to my health, I must retire earlier than expected to take care of myself. I will enjoy spending more time with my family and getting to be at more of my kids’ functions, as well as enjoying hobbies that I have neglected for years.”

Dr. Oines was honored with a Retirement Reception in mid-December hosted by Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He has been a member of the Brownwood Regional Medical Center Active Medical Staff since 1995.  He moved to Brownwood after completing his Internship and Residency at Scott and White Memorial/Texas A&M University College of Medicine in June 1995. He became a partner in the Heart of Texas Internal Medicine Group where he remained until his retirement in November 2017.

He has been a leader in many community activities including his church as a Children’s Sunday School Teacher, a Boys and Girls Soccer Coach along with serving as a member of the First United Methodist Preschool Board and served as an active lecturer for community education at BRMC.

Dr. Oines has also held leadership positions for the BRMC Medical Staff including Chief of Medicine, Vice Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff, ICU Medical Director, Pharmacy Medical Director and an active member of the Hospital Board of Directors and served on the Physician Leadership Group.

Chip Camp, CEO of BRMC, stated, “It is difficult to lose a physician like Dr. Oines, but it is admirable to realize the importance of enjoying family more and not miss those special moments.  We want to wish him the best and to enjoy all those activities. We thank him for his many years of service to his patients and for being a dedicated and loyal member of the BRMC family.”
