ChloeGeyeScholarshipThe Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo awarded 70 Texas FFA members with four-year, $15,000 college scholarships totaling $1,050,000 during the 82nd Texas FFA Convention in Corpus Christi, Thursday, July 15.  Chloe Geye, a recent graduate of Brownwood High School, was one of the honored recipients.

A scholarship evaluation committee, chosen by Texas FFA officials, and consisting of agricultural science teachers representing the 10 FFA areas in Texas, evaluated applicants on the criteria of academic ability, FFA involvement and achievement, financial need, and leadership.

After the 22 page application was reviewed by the committee, applicants had a local area interview.  From the Brownwood area, 80 students applied.  Advancing applicants were then promoted to the state level, where the process began again.

Chloe has been an active FFA member throughout high school and has excelled in all the core areas of FFA:  Leadership, SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experiences), LDE (Leadership Development Events) and CDE (Career Development Events).  Chloe was an officer at the chapter, district and area level where she helped plan and lead numerous conferences and camps. Her supervised agricultural experiences consisted of 26 cows for calf production and showing steers, heifers and hogs.

Chloe has earned numerous awards, including advancing to the state level in both LDE (Job Interview) and CDE (Livestock Judging).  She was the 2nd highest scoring individual at the state FFA Livestock Judging Competition this year.  In 2009, Chloe was a State Star Award finalist.

Chloe’s hard work and determination has been supported by many, including Brownwood FFA advisors Denzil Flood, Mitzi Cockerham and Ben Ellebracht.  Chloe will be attending Texas A&M in the fall.
