FlyingBoatLake Brownwood – Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Delgado was called to the 4300 block of Texas Highway 279 at the Rocky Creek Baptist Church Saturday morning after a ski boat and trailer disengaged from a 1997 Chevrolet pickup about 9:25am.

The driver, Barbara Blackburn of Brownwood, said “…one minute I was running down the road, the next minute the boat came loose and ran down through a fence and up the tank dam. I mean it happened just that quick!”

The Johnson Sea Sport inboard-outboard boat appeared to have received moderate lower hull and lower-unit damages.

Trooper Delgado said, “…it appears that the ball hitch may have not been secured and properly latched, and there were no safety chains connecting the trailer to the vehicle. Fortunately, there were no injuries, just property damages to the boat, trailer, and to a game fence along the highway frontage”.

The flying ski boat appeared to have taken out twenty to thirty feet of the high fence that neighbors the Rocky Creek Baptist Church property. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control and the Brownwood office of the Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
