Services for Walter Bruce Croft, 69, of Brownwood will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday May 15th, at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Jordan Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 14th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heartland Funeral Home.

Walter passed from his place on Earth and entered his Heavenly home on Friday, May 12th, after a 5 year battle against cancer.

Walter was born in Brownwood, on November 1, 1947 to John B. and Doris Croft. He attended Brownwood High School where he played football and was a member of the 1965 State Championship team. He was inducted into the Gordon Wood Hall of Fame in 2015.  He was a graduate of Howard Payne University. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Walter was married to his high school sweetheart, Gail Colyer, for 50 years. Walter was the owner/operator of Walter B’s Western Hat store. He served Brown County as Justice of the Peace Precinct One for 25 years and was awarded the College of Justice Court Judges honor.

Walter was first and foremost a family man. He went to all of his children and grandchildren’s events, from National Honor Society Inductions and award ceremonies to sporting events. He was a proud supporter of the Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions. When asked why we didn’t take trips, his response was that we traveled all the time to every soccer, volleyball, basketball, football, baseball game and track meet that our kids were competing. Summers were spent with the family at the lake fishing, skiing and just enjoying the water and being together.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail; daughter, Terri Stephens and husband Mark of Brownwood; son, David Croft of Corpus Christi and grandchildren, Mitch Stephens of Brownwood; and Margaret, Katherine and Emily Croft of Corpus Christi and Abigail Jones, also of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by his sister, Vonne Cornett and husband, Lynn of Brownwood and 2 brothers, Kemper Croft and his wife, Tonja and Pee Wee Croft and his wife, Sara of Brownwood along with numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and sister, Nancy Thibert of Austin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Triumph Over Kid Cancer (TOKC)  triumphoverkidcancer.org

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the family online at heartlandfuneralhome.net
