VOTEThe early voting period ended on Wednesday in the runoff election for Brownwood City Council seat Ward 2.  Candidates Ed McMillian and Eddie Watson were separated by just 4 votes in the regular election in May eliminating candidate Richard Ashton from the race.

Election Administrator Suzy Young said that 333 ballots were cast in person by voters in the runoff election with 20 ballots coming in by mail.  Election day in this runoff is Saturday, June 12th at the Adams Street Community Center.  The polls will be open from 7am to 7pm.

Young had a couple of requests for those eligible to vote in the city election.

“Come Vote,” Young said.  She said that considering how close the election was between the candidates in the regular election, every vote will be especially important and that very few votes could determine the outcome.

“One vote matters and every ballot is counted and important,” Young said.  “I hate to see any race determined by a low turnout.”

Young also asked that voters be sure to completely shade in the bubble on the ballots beside the candidate’s name they are voting for.  She said that many voters mark the ballot with a checkmark, but the automated counting system reads this as an irregular ballot.

“All irregular ballots have to be counted by hand,” Young said.
