Written by Amanda Coers – Howard Payne University student Chassidy Holloway has partnered with Pastor Joe Franklin and the First Baptist Church of Brownwood to host a 3-on-3 basketball league for adult men and women. Holloway is a second year graduate student in the Sport and Wellness Leadership (SWELL) Program, and is coordinating the league as part of her fulfillment requirements for the M.Ed. program. Holloway’s supervising professor is Dr. Graham Hatcher with the Department of Kinesiology at Howard Payne University.

“This will be First Baptist Church and The BRICK’s First Annual Spring Basketball League,” said Holloway. “The goal of The BRICK Spring Basketball League is to provide a casual setting to uphold the Gospel of God’s grace and offer a safe environment that helps build the body of Christ through fellowship and recreation. We are inviting individuals, local churches and organizations to participate in hopes that the body of believers in Brownwood will come together to uphold the Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ.”

Registration began on January 23, 2017 and will be open through February 25, 2017.  Registration is required along with a one-time registration fee of $40 per team.  Teams must have a minimum of 3 players, and no more than 5 individuals can be on each team. Adult men and women, age 18 and older, are eligible to play.  Teams can be co-ed if they so choose.

Teams will play a minimum of 1 game per week on a Tuesday and/or Thursday.  The number of teams that register will determine the final number of games to be played and if Thursday will be an option for play.  The first day of play for the league will be February 28th and will run through April 8, 2017.  There will be no games the week of March 13th-17th due to Spring Break.  All games will be played in The BRICK gymnasium located adjacent to First Baptist Church.

Teams are asked to register online by visiting www.fbcbrownwood.org/resources/calendar and finding the February 28th event on the calendar.  For questions or more detailed information, please emailinfo@fbcbrownwood.org or contact Chassidy Holloway at 205.937.0040 or chassidy.holloway@hputx.edu.

There will be a mandatory meeting on February 26, 2017 at 4 p.m. to finalize all team details and review league rules. There must be at least one representative for each team present at the meeting.
