Three different businesses in Brownwood received counterfeit $20 bills on February 9th and 10th according to police reports.

*On February 9th Brownwood Police were called at 7:05 a.m. to Allsup’s after the store manager discovered counterfeit bills in the store’s safe.

*On February 9th Brownwood Police were called at 1:38 p.m to Food Plaza #7 after the store manager discovered counterfeit bills in the store’s safe.

* On February 10th Brownwood Police were called at 6:18 p.m. to Little Ceasar’s after the discovery of counterfeit money.

“Businesses are reinforcing training with their employees and being diligent in their efforts to make sure they don’t receive the counterfeits,” said Assistant Police Chief James Fuller.

A variety of businesses are being targeted: restaurants, Walmart, and convenience stores. Should a business recognize a counterfeit bill while the suspect is still present, the Assistant Chief says it’s best to try to stall the suspect and call the police.

An investigation into the source of the counterfeit money is currently ongoing and the Assistant Chief feels confident it will lead to an arrest.

Wednesday, February 8th

*8 a.m. Brownwood Police responded to a call from the 3500 block of 2nd Street in reference to a theft. According to the report, a generator was stolen. A report has been filed.

*6 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Avenue B regarding an assault. After speaking with the complainant, officers located the suspect near 10th Street and Brady Avenue. After a foot pursuit with the suspect, officers arrested Nikita Marie Martinez for Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Public Intoxication, and Escape from Custody.

*6:41 p.m. Brownwood Police were notified of a “gas drive off” from a south Brownwood business. A report has been filed.

Thursday, February 9th

*2:22 a.m. Brownwood Police responded to a  hit-and-run incident on the 1700 block of Magnolia. A known suspect was listed, and a report has been filed.

*5:04 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1800 block of 6th Street in reference to a theft. According to the report, a silver/black Jeep brand three-wheel off road baby stroller was stolen. Known suspects were listed, and an investigation is ongoing.
