The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is investing a case of animal cruelty after a man reported someone cut the head off one of his sheep.

A report from the Sheriff’s Office states: On 1/14/17, at approximately 1050 hours, a deputy responded to a residence on Walnut Street for a Cruelty to Livestock Animal report. The victim advised an unknown suspect cut the head off one of his sheep. The case is still being investigated.

It is a State Jail Felony case of Cruelty to Animals. Under Texas law, a state jail felony may include jail time ranging from 180 days to 2 years and a fine up to $10,000. Conceivably, a person who killed another’s livestock could also be charged with theft or destruction of private property.
