Written by Amanda Coers – When Kenzie Poindexter was just 4 years old she decided to donate her long brown hair after seeing children battling cancer on TV. That simple act of giving turned into a lifelong tradition for the Early High School student, who has given her hair to Locks of Love four times: the first at 4 years old giving 13 inches, again at 7 years old with a 12-inch donation, and at 10 years old she donated 14 inches.

Kenzie is now 15 years old and recently gave another 10 inches of her hair to the organization. To date, she’s given a total of 49 inches to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

“She has always been very compassionate towards others,” says her mother, Erocia Donahoo.

Kenzie continues to carry that compassion into her career plans, as she hopes to attend medical school to become a heart surgeon. She also plans to continuing donating her hair.

According to her sister, Veronica Burgin, Kenzie has a giving heart, and by telling her story, Lawson hopes someone else might donate as well or just be inspired.

“She truly has the spirit of giving, and it is a gift to give in her opinion,” said Lawson.  “She is an awesome kid.”
