Written by Amanda Coers – The Good Samaritan Ministries Resale Store will be holding a clearance sale on Wednesday and Thursday, December 21st and 22nd. Team members are hoping to clear the Resale Store in order to prepare for a new flooring to be laid in the store over the Christmas holidays. The Resale Store will hold its sale on Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Resale Store is located at 305 Clark Street in Brownwood. Everything in the entire store except marked clothing (new clothing with tags) and electronics will be on sale for ten cents.

The Resale Store will be closed Friday, December 23rd to prepare for renovations and will have a grand reopening on Monday, January 9th.

Though the Good Samaritan Ministries works to feed the hungry in Brown County, anyone can shop at their Resale Store. Items are donated from the community and sales from the store help the ministry operate and provide assistance to people in need in Brown County.

The Resale Store features donated clothing, shoes, linens, toys, household items and small appliances, all sold at very low prices. The Resale Store is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Groundwork for Good Samaritan Ministries was laid in 1990 when a representative from the Baptist General Convention of Texas’ Church and Community Ministries Department visited the Baptist Association in Brownwood and discussed with several interested individuals from the Baptist churches the need for a Christian social outreach ministry.

In 1993, a name was chosen—Heart of Texas Good Samaritan Ministries. In September, 1994 a 9,500 square foot building was purchased in downtown Brownwood. The ministry was moved to that location and operations began there in December. Three more ministries were added: Samaritan Aid (assistance with utility and rent), Help for Health (medical and dental assistance), and a school supply program.

Over the years Good Samaritan Ministries has become a vital part of the community, offering unique hunger ministries: feeding school-aged children with Food for Thought, feeding the elderly through a Homebound program, working to gather food through The Deer Project and The Pig Project, providing nonperishable food items in their Homeless Boxes program, and feeding over 1,000 families each month from their Food Pantry.
