Born March 5, 1930 in Brownwood, Texas, Patsy Jean Hunt was daughter to Wesley Powell Hunt, a master mechanic, and Golden McCamey Hunt, an educator and homemaker. As a youth, Patsy (“Pat”) found tremendous enjoyment in family, school, music, art, and her many pets.
A graduate of Brownwood High School at sixteen, Pat then worked as secretary of Arrow Coach Lines. Soon after, she met the love of her life, Robert (“Bob”) E. Dunn, Navy veteran and recent UT Austin pharmacy graduate. The young couple married on August 5, 1950. In 1951 and 1956, sons Kevin Jay and Shaun Timothy were born.
Pat loved all school and church events. She was a contributing and volunteer member in her sons’ PTA and Band Parents groups, as well as part-time pianist and organist at the Calvary Baptist Church.
Pat Dunn pursued life-long interests in art, gardening, travel, playing bridge, and cooking. Always, she and husband Bob shared their love of music with their sons.
Pat attended Howard Payne College, completing a degree in art education, with a business minor. After graduation, Pat was secretary in the Athletics Department of Howard Payne, before accepting a position as art instructor at Brownwood Middle School.
During her tenure, Pat taught students various media, from weaving to drawing and from painting to sculpture. Several of her students won awards, then went on to become studio artists. These students credited “Mrs. Dunn” as their first supportive arts influence, a tribute which touched Pat tremendously.
Pat and Bob Dunn had a lifelong love of travel and enjoyed repeated journeys to Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Italy, Austria, and Germany, as well as cruises to tropical shores, RV travel in the Southwestern United States, and trips to British Columbia,
Patsy Jean Hunt Dunn passed on December 4, 2016 at C.A.R.E Nursing, where she received loving support during her brief time there. Pat was preceded in death by beloved parents and by dear husband Robert Dunn. Pat is survived by devoted sons Kevin and Shaun and by cousins in Canada, the United States, and Hawaii. Pat’s life was defined by absolute love of family, unending loyalty to friends, and a zest for all things beautiful in life. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Family visitation is at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, Wednesday, December 7, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with interment following at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
