
The City of Brownwood shared the following information on social media Friday afternoon:
The City of Brownwood and the Brownwood Police Department congratulates Detective Joe Aaron Taylor on his retirement after more than 21 years of service to the Brownwood Police Department and more than 24 years of total law enforcement service.
Aaron began his law enforcement career with the Arlington Police Department in 2001, later served with the Abilene Christian University Police Department, and joined the Brownwood Police Department in December 2003.
During his career with the Brownwood Police Department, Detective Taylor served as a Detective and Narcotics Officer, earning the respect of his peers, supervisors, prosecutors, and the community. His career includes five commendations from citizens and police supervisors for his professionalism and care in service to the community, Brownwood Police Department Officer of the Year in 2013, and Texas Narcotics Officers Association Officer of the Year in 2025, as voted by his peers.
Detective Taylor also established the Brownwood Police Department’s electronic forensics lab, which has played a key role in solving numerous violent crimes, including aggravated assaults, homicides, and missing person cases. He was also recognized as an expert witness in narcotics and electronic forensic cases through the 35th District Attorney’s Office.
Brownwood Police Chief James Fuller shared, “Aaron Taylor is a good man, a good police officer, and a good investigator. But most of all, a good friend. He will be missed, but I know that he will do well in his future.”
