The BMDD Board of Directors held at Tuesday meeting at Brownwood City Hall

The Brownwood Municipal Development District Board of Directors, after an executive session Tuesday afternoon, approved an incentive package to Xforge, for a multi-use development in the amount of $620,000, at 3.27 acres of BMDD owned land on C.C. Woodson Rd.

The Brownwood City Council must ratify the BMDD’s action, and more information on the project is expected to be revealed at the Tuesday, May 26 council meeting.

Also after the executive session Tuesday, the BMDD also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Brownwood Civic Improvement Foundation for the maintenance and operation of a building located at 201 Center Avenue.

During the reports presented by Assistant Director of Economic Development and Tourism Amy Whitner , the BMDD board was told the Shops on Commerce are still on pace to open in October, with interior work expected to begin next week on Ross, Five Below, Ulta Beauty, Bath & Body Works, and James Avery. The 41,000 square foot shopping center is located at 537 West Commerce.

The Phase II renovations for Riverside Park will start as soon as the new playground equipment arrives. The playground area is anticipated to be closed approximately 45 days for installation of the new equipment.

The Central Texas Veterans Memorial will begin construction on its new canopy the week of May 26, as soon as this year’s Memorial Day program is complete. The annual Memorial Day program is slated for 11 a.m. Monday, May 25.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the BMDD received a ‘clean opinion’ on its audit for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Chris Pruitt with Pattillo, Brown & Hill, LLP also shared the BMDD concluded the previous fiscal year $501,000 in the black compared to budget.
