May Sales Tax Receipts Up in All Three Brown County Cities

The Sales Tax funds received in May were higher in all three cities in Brown County compared to May 2025, according to data released by the Texas Comptroller’s Office.  The City of Bangs led the way with an increase of more than 50% over one year ago.  Sales tax allocations distributed by the Comptroller’s Office to the cities represent taxable retail sales in March 2026.  Details below.

BROWNWOOD

The City of Brownwood received $760,530, an increase of 1.61% compared to May 2025.  Fiscal year-to-date (October 2025 through May 2026) Brownwood has received $5,165,503, up 2.51% over the previous fiscal year-to-date.

The Brownwood Municipal Development District received $236,333, an increase of 3.73% compared to May 2025.  Fiscal year-to-date the Brownwood MDD has received $1,670,764, up 2.92% over the previous fiscal year-to-date.

EARLY

The City of Early received $254,986, an increase of 25.56% compared to May 2025.  Fiscal year-to-date Early has received $1,813,300, up 19.75% over the previous fiscal year-to-date.

The Early Municipal Development District received $82,874, an increase of 27.32% compared to May 2025.  Fiscal year-to-date the Early MDD has received $597,375, up 20.66% over the previous fiscal year-to-date.

BANGS

The City of Bangs received $36,888, an increase of 53.11% compared to May 2025.  Fiscal year-to-date Bangs has received $224,215, up 15.77% over the previous fiscal year-to-date.

The Bangs Municipal Development District received $4,646, an increase of 44.06% compared to May 2025.  Fiscal year-to-date the Bangs MDD has received $30,260, up 12.72% over the previous fiscal year-to-date.
