Charles Robert Batten lovingly known as “Charlie,”, 77, of Brownwood, TX, passed away on May 1, 2026 at his home. Charlie, beloved husband and father, died suddenly after a wonderful dinner at Prima Pasta. By the way, he had the steak and loved it!

Born August 20, 1948, in Brunswick, GA, Charlie was the son of the late Alvin and Ruby (Clark) Batten. Charlie was married to Patrice Ann Porostovsky on March 9, 1979, in Brunswick, GA. They were happily married for 36 years until her passing in July 2015. Their connection and passion for one another was undeniable and electric. Charlie and Patrice were proud of their 3 amazing children…Aimee, Maxwell and Jade.

After his wife’s passing, he moved to Brownwood in 2016 and spent the last years of his life enjoying the companionship of Rose Fojtik. They enjoyed the simple moments of riding down the road and exploring local treasures whether it be a meal, historical marker, a dance, or a local event.

Charlie spent the majority of his career working as a Boilermaker. He explained several times to his family what this entailed, but for the most part, it’s still a mystery to most of us because it was so complicated. Through his work, Charlie developed a love for travel and new experiences with his brother James who worked and traveled with him. Prior to his retirement, he was able to work alongside his brother, Eddie, which he often spoke fondly of.

Generous in spirit and in heart, Charlie was larger than life and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the simplicity and tranquility of living life at the 4E Ranch with his son, Maxwell and lovely wife, Brandi. This included the joy of planting and watching the garden grow, watching native birds with his binoculars, training turkeys to come when he called them, and visiting daily with two of his best friends, Gary and Vicki Eicher. In the quieter moments, he enjoyed his Bible daily and talking to his Lord and Savior.

Charlie was equally proud of being a worldwide traveler and spending many months exploring Europe with his daughter, Aimee, over the last years of his life while her husband, Bobby, a retired Air Force veteran, was stationed in England. No matter where he was, Charlie was enjoying life to the fullest and made sure that you stopped to smell the roses WITH him. To know him was to love him, and he will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patrice Batten, and brother, James Batten as well as his parents Alvin and Ruby Batten.

Survived by his children, Aimee Lockwood and her husband, Bobby, of Brownwood, Texas; Maxwell Batten and his wife, Brandi (Eicher), of Brownwood, Texas; and Jade Nelson and her husband, Jeremiah, of Asheville, North Carolina.

He is also survived by his brother Clark Batten, Edward (Eddie) Batten and wife Shannon (Frierson) and brother Michael Batten and wife Jeannie (Harrell) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will host a Celebration of Life service on May 8, 2026, at 1:00PM at Bowser Community Church, 124 CR 245, Rochelle, TX 76872. Reception will follow at the Community Center.

Cremation under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.
