The Brown County Retired School Employees Association recently announced the winner of the Mary Michaels Memorial Scholarship award of $1,000 – Tylee Lewis of Zephyr. Tylee is the daughter of Ty and Christy Lewis, and she plans to attend Texas A&M and pursue a degree in Education.
This year, Tylee has served as president of the Zephyr Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and the vice president of the National Honor Society, reflecting her commitment to service, leadership, and academic integrity. She has also challenged herself with dual credit coursework from Ranger College, and will graduate as valedictorian of the Class of 2026 from Zephyr High School.
Her achievements extend beyond the campus, including being elected Whip at Texas Girls State and placing third in the Regional Veterans of Foreign Wars writing competition.
Tylee affirmed her passion for teaching while serving as a kindergarten teacher’s aide, and draws inspiration from her family. Her father and grandmother were educators, and her mother serves as program director for Sweeten Home for Children, Inc.
“I love my educators and admire the sacrifices they make in the hopes of bettering my line,” Tylee said. “If even one child feels the way I do about the teachers I have been blessed with, then I will have done what God put me here to do.”
