Brownwood High School graduate, McKenzie Denay Cox, 18 years old, was killed after succumbing to injuries sustained during a rollover accident on Highway 67 nine miles west of Comanche.

The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 4th. Her aunt stated on Facebook that McKenzie was headed home from Tarleton State University in Stephenville to visit family during the weekend. According to the DPS report, she lost control of the vehicle and was ejected. McKenzie was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

She was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m.

In April 2016 McKenzie signed a letter of intent to continue her sports career at Tarleton State University, as a member of the track team, competing in the high jump. McKenzie had considered a school in Louisiana but ultimately decided to stay closer to home. She had planned to study Kinesiology in the hopes of becoming a physical therapist.
