GRAHAM – For the third year in a row, the Brownwood Lady Lions secured a track and field district championship, generating 216 points despite not being at full strength at the two-day 6-4A meet that concluded Thursday at Newton Field.
The Lady Lions finished with 55 points more than runner-up Brock (161) and won 11 of the 17 events. The Lady Lions also clinched 23 berths to the 5-4A/6-4A area meet in Abilene on Friday, April 17, as the top four finishers in each event advanced.
Two new school records were set by the Lady Lions as Thursday Grace Sparks was clocked at 14.85 in the 100-meter hurdles – one of her two gold medals as she also finished first in the 300-meter hurdles (45.2).
Back on Wednesday, Hannah Deen topped her own school record in the high jump by clearing 5-8, and went to advance to area in five events.
Also winning a pair of events Thursday were defending state champion Kaya Phillips in the 200 meters (24.6), as well as the long jump (18-0), along with Rebekkah Delgado in the 800 meters (2:23.29) and the 400 meters (58.56).
The Lady Lions swept all three relays with altered combinations due to injuries suffered during the meet as the 4×100 of Eboni Baker, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin, and Aniah Hines finished in 47.92, the 4×200 relay of Jade Morin, Nylah Hall, Jaidyn Hope, and Kaya Phillips was timed at 1:41.9, and the 4×400 relay of Grace Sparks, Rebekkah Delgado, Hannah Deen, and Jade Morin was clocked at 4:00.7.
Nylah Hall also claimed a gold medal back on Wednesday in the triple jump (37-3.5).
Moving on to area with silver medals were Hannah Deen in both the triple jump (37-1.75) and the long jump (17-4.25); Jentry Coalson in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.94) and the 300-meter hurdles (46.48); Grace Sparks in the pole vault (11-6); and Kaydence Allen in the shot put (35-3.5).

Meanwhile, the Brownwood Lions produced 27 points over the two-day event, leaving them in sixth place as Stephenville won the meet with 202 points. The Lions locked up a pair of area berths as Blayne Stegemoller in the discus (135-11) and the 4×400 relay of Raven Prado, Wyatt Wolf, Hutton Malone, and Blayne Stegemoller (3:34.03) both finished in fourth place.
The JV Lady Lions also placed first in the final team standings with 211 points – 40 more than runner-up Brock (171) – as they won 10 events and collected 20 medals.
The JV Lions, meanwhile, earned four medals and tallied 58 points to come in fifth place, as Stephenville won division with 180 points.
