DIAMOND ROUNDUP: Lady Horns stay perfect in district, Longhorns dealt first 8-3A loss

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns improved to 5-0 in District 8-3A softball action and 16-4 on the season behind their eighth consecutive victory, 11-0 over Eastland Tuesday.

The Lady Horns scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning and added six more in the third en route to their latest triumph.

Aided by three Eastland errors, Early also drew five walks and tallied six hits – two each Andie Simpson, who tripled and drove in three, and Aleeya McCombs, along with a double and two RBIs from Avery Stifflemire, and a single from Sunny Groom. Jamie Lyon also contributed an RBI.

In the circle, Groom pitched all five innings and gave up just two hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Early next hosts Tolar at 5 p.m. Friday.

Breckenridge 5, Early Longhorns 4

BRECKENRIDGE – The Early Longhorns suffered their first District 8-3A baseball setback as their six-game win streak came to an end with a 5-4 loss at Breckenridge Tuesday.

The Longhorns (6-9, 2-1) trailed 3-1 after one inning, 4-1 after two, 4-3 after three, but tied the score at 4 in the top of the fourth inning where it remained until Breckenridge walked off the victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Early collected 11 hits – four by Brayden Moya and three by Jack Nowell, who both recorded an RBI, and one each from Hunter McCullough, Jaxson Stockman, Jackson Clark, and Eli Pallette.

On the mound, Pallette and Brennan Rasor allowed a combined four earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and five walks, while the Longhorn defense committed four errors.

Early will next welcome Breckenridge to conclude their two-game district series at 7 p.m. Friday.
