During Tuesday afternoon’s meeting of the Brownwood Municipal Development District Board of Directors, Deputy City Manager Ray Tipton shared with the Board that a contract for the new playscape equipment at Riverside Park had been signed, and installation work is anticipated to begin in four to six weeks.
The installation, which will include a shaded area over the playscape along with the new equipment, is expected to take approximately 30 days. That part of the park will be closed during installation, but Riverside Park as a whole will remain open.
Updates to the disc golf course are estimated to take place during the same time frame as well.
Tipton gave a report on the NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball National Championship tournament held at the Brownwood Coliseum last week. Estimated attendance each day was between 1,700 and 2,000 spectators. Any revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and tournament fees will remain with the City and be used toward the 2028 tournament, which again will be held in Brownwood.
Tipton added the bidding for the 2029, 2030 and 2031 NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball National Championship tournaments will take place later this year, and the City has been encouraged to submit a bid by the NJCAA.
Tipton also said paperwork between the City and the Preserve on Mustang Ridge housing development, which will be located across the street from Brownwood Middle School on Calvert Road, is nearing completion.
Construction inside the Fairway Club, located at 305 Center Avenue, is complete and equipment is expected to arrive soon, Tipton told the Board.
Tipton also mentioned inquiries into the light industrial park area have picked up, but no announcements are imminent.
Following an executive session, the BMDD Board approved a Building Improvement Incentive Grant not to exceed $25,000 to a property at 104 South Broadway owned by Steven McCrane, as well as a Building Improvement Incentive Grant not to exceed $24,000 to property at 510-514 Center Avenue owned by David and Mary Stanley.
The Board also OK’ed a $500,000 Housing Incentive to Trafalgar Homes for the Indian Creek Phase II development. Tipton stated more information on that project will be revealed at the next Brownwood City Council meeting.
