GOLDTHWAITE – The Bangs Dragons baseball team notched a second consecutive victory, upending the Goldthwaite Eagles, 5-2, Wednesday night.
Bangs (3-7-1) opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Goldthwaite (4-7) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first and drew even in the sixth inning. The Dragons, however, tallied three runs in their last at-bat in the top of the seventh to pull off the win.
The Dragons mustered just two hits – by Trapper Estess and Jackson Edmisten – but drew six walks and were aided by a pair of Goldthwaite errors.
Estess tossed 5.1 innings and allowed one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks for Bangs, while Kason Klutts worked 1.2 innings and did not yield a run or a hit, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Goldthwaite’s four hits came from Owen Campbell, with a pair, along with Slade Allen and River Boucher.
On the mound, Luke Patrick and Talen Gardner combined to pitch seven innings of two-hit ball for the Eagles, giving up just two earned runs with six strikeouts.
