After a final interview earlier this week, the Maypearl ISD Board of Trustees voted to name Bangs ISD Superintendent Dr. Josh Martin as the lone finalist for the district’s Superintendent position.
Texas law requires school districts to observe a mandatory 21-day waiting period after naming a lone finalist for the Superintendent position before officially finalizing the hire. Maypearl ISD expects Dr. Martin to officially assume the role of Superintendent in April.
In March 2020, Martin became the Superintendent at Bangs ISD.
BrownwoodNews.com reached out to Martin, who said, “It’s been a great ride here the last six years, but we were presented an opportunity get closer to family and this is as close we’ve been to family in 15 years, so it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. I’ll be about an hour from home when I get there.”
Regarding his time in Bangs, Martin said, “It’s sad leaving here, there’s a lot different memories from the relationships you build whether it’s teachers or the community, and you get to celebrate and see kids grow up. There’s a lot of good people in Bangs and that’s not going to change. That’s what we’ll remember down the road, but we’ll still catch up with people.”
As for the next steps for Bangs ISD, Board of Trustees president Justin Duncan said, “It’s very early in the process but we will have a board meeting next week to discuss options going forward.”
