Joe Dan Weedon

Funeral services for Joe Dan Weedon, age 90, of Lake Brownwood, will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 25, 2016 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Weedon Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

Joe Dan Weedon was born on the family ranch at Lake Brownwood on December 15, 1925.  Joe Dan passed from this life on September 23, 2016, at his home on Lake Brownwood at the age of 90 years.  Joe Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anna B. Weedon, and two granddaughters, Julie Elaine Weedon and Anna B. Bunnell.

Joe Dan graduated from Grosvenor High School in 1943.  He served in the US Navy in World War II on the USS Owen (DD536) from 1945 to 1946.  Upon his honorable discharge, Joe Dan joined his father in the Polled Hereford business.  He served as a director and secretary for the Brown County Polled Hereford Association, director in the West Texas Association, Central Texas Association and director and President of the Texas Polled Hereford Association and the Federal Land Bank.

Joe Dan and his father showed their Polled Herefords at most of the major shows in the United States where they won several championships.

On September 11, 1949, Joe Dan married Bett Lightsey of Early and together they raised Polled Herefords and started their family.  Joe Dan and Bett have two children, a son, Bill Weedon and wife Onetta of Lake Brownwood and a daughter, Deborah Weedon of Lake Brownwood; grandchildren, Daniel Weedon, Lisa Weedon Lucas and Kelli Weedon Claxton and husband Brandon.  They also have two great-grandchildren, Anna Weedon and Connor Lucas.

On October 20, 2014, Joe Dan and Bett were presented with a Texas flag that had been flown at the Texas State Capitol by the House of Representative, Jim Keffer in honor of their years of service and support to the Brown County Republican Party.

Joe Dan was a member of The Early Church in Early.
