John Allen Campbell, a good man who dearly loved to laugh passed from this life into his eternal home on Sunday, September 18, 2016.

John was born in New York City November 10, 1925. He was raised in Georgetown, British Guiana by his grandmother who was a missionary with the Church of Scotland.  He would tell wonderful stories of his childhood such as diving from anchor chains of ships in the Demara River, drinking coconut milk, and holidays on Trinidad.  Drafted into the army during World War II, he was stationed in Puerto Rico.  After the war he married Virginia Petty of Zephyr.  He was a roughneck in the oil fields of west Texas in the early years of their marriage, then a plumber for H&H Plumbing in Abilene, Texas and lastly was one of the first hires for 3M in Brownwood.  John loved his family, motorcycles and was deeply involved with the Masonic Lodge.  John was lovingly cared for the last two years by his daughter, Gloria.  Thanks also to Solaris Hospice.

John is survived by a sister, Claire Brassington of the U.K.; brother, Douglas Campbell and wife Margaret of Australia; daughters, Gloria Larremore and husband Freddy of Brownwood and Barbara Jernigan and husband Gaylon of Mullin; son George Campbell and wife Kim of Blanket; and daughter-in-law Hopie Campbell of Waco; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Allen and Ivy Campbell; wife Virginia Faye; sister Gloria Gates; two sons, Ronald Allen and Richard Ivan and great grandson, Cooper Greene.

Services will be held at Davis-Morris Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10 AM. Graveside services with Masonic rites will follow at the Zephyr Cemetery.

Online memorials may be made at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com.
