Leslie Rios earns second straight state powerlifting berth, Lady Lions third as a team at regionals

DUBLIN – For the second year in a row, Leslie Rios is headed to the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet, and the Brownwood Lady Lions finished third as a team at the Class 4A Region II Large School meet here Friday.

Rios won the 220-pound weight class with a total of 885 pounds lifted – 365 in the squat, 185 in the bench press, and 335 pounds in the deadlift. Rios placed second at regionals a year ago with 740 pounds lifted.

The Class 4A state meet is scheduled for Friday, March 20 in Edinburg.

As a team, the Lady Lions generated 23 points which trailed only Alvarado (56 points) and Lampasas (39 points).

Coming in third were Atlanta Olguin in the 181s with 720 pounds lifted (290 squat, 165 bench, 265 deadlift), Allisson Reyna in the 198s with 785 pounds (310 squat, 135 bench, 340 deadlift), and Aliyah Berndt in the 242s with 805 pounds (325 squat, 175 bench, 305 deadlift).

Finishing fourth were Maddi Scott in the 148s with 705 pounds (280 squat, 165 bench, 260 deadlift), Jaleah Brew in the 198s with 670 pounds (260 squat, 135 bench, 275 deadlift), and De’Layna Hall in the 220s with 795 pounds (310 squat, 170 bench, 315 deadlift).

Also for Brownwood, Ashley Robinson placed fifth in the 123s with 565 pounds (235 squat, 120 bench, 210 deadlift); Carly Allred was sixth in the 181s with 570 pounds (225 squat, 150 bench, 195 deadlift); Lilyanna Martinez was seventh in the 132s with 530 pounds (185 squad, 115 bench, 230 deadlift); and Aubrey Hubbard was eighth in the 148s with 620 pounds (230 squat, 125 bench, 265 deadlift).
