EARLY – The Early Lady Horns softball team began its portion of the Battle on the Bayou softball tournament Friday with wins over Hawley and Cisco.

In a 7-0 triumph over Hawley, Adysn Atchley tossed a no-hitter over three innings, striking out four while walking three batters.

Offensively for Early, Sunny Groom led the seven-hit attack with three, including a double, and a pair of RBIs. Aleeya McCombs drove in two and added a hit, while Avery Stifflemire doubled and singled, Paizlee Scott doubled and drove in one, and Kyleigh Caperton provided an RBI.

In a 7-3 victory over Cisco, Early overcame a 3-1 deficit after the first inning, knotting the score at 3 in the top of the second, then putting four runs on the board in the top of the third to land in the win column.

The nine-hit attack for the Lady Horns featured a pair from Groom, and one apiece from Caperton, Scott, McCombs, Stifflemire, Jaime Lyon, Sydney Greaves and Andie Simpson. Caperton’s two RBIs were a team-best with one each coming from Groom, Simpson and McCombs.

Groom picked up the win in the circle, hurling three shutout innings of relief with four strikeouts and two hits allowed.

The Lady Horns (6-2) are slated to face Lubbock Estacado at noon and Christoval at 3 p.m. Saturday to conclude tournament play.
