Zephyr Lady Bulldogs rally past Abbott, 51-49, for bi-district basketball title

DUBLIN – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs erased an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit and captured a Class A Division I Region IV girls basketball bi-district championship with a 51-49 win over Abbott here Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 14-7 after one quarter, 23-22 at halftime, and 39-31 going to fourth period, where Zephyr outscored Abbott 20-10 down the stretch to snatch the victory.

Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Kirstan King with 16 points, Avery Stevens with 15, Calyn Kubin with eight, Riley Hood with six, and Kenlyn King, Sydney Hobson, and Sydnee Simpson with two points apiece. Kubin surpassed 1,000 points in her career with Tuesday night’s effort.

Zephyr (20-14) will face No. 5 Broaddus (31-5) in the second round of the playoffs later this week at a time, date, and place that was yet to be determined late Tuesday night.
