Funeral Services for Brother Richard “Dick” Williams, age 90, of Brownwood will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Bro. Tim Skaggs and Bro. Alan Wallace officiating; burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
Dick joined his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, gaining eternal life.
Dick was born on November 8, 1925, to Glyndwr and Hattie (Davies) Williams in Worthington, Ohio. He married his soul mate, Viola “Vi” Job, on June 5, 1948. Dick knew his passion and calling was in Ministry. He earned a Bachelor of Bible College Degree at Northwestern College, Bachelor of Arts Degree at Jamestown College, his Master of Theology Degree at Dallas Theological Seminary, and Clinical Pastoral Education Certificate to pursue his calling.
Bro. Dick served over 60 years in Ministry; ministering in North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. He also taught Bible College in Dallas and Chaplain Courses in Abilene, Cisco, and Brownwood. He was an active member at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church and taught Sunday School Classes.
Bro. Dick was an Area Missionary with Cisco Baptist Association. He served as Chaplain for 35 years in Brown and surrounding counties, including home health and hospice. He and Vi were volunteers for Brownwood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for many years; Bro. Dick served as the Chaplin President. He was honored with numerous community awards including the HPU Spirit of Social Work Award and Rising Star’s Man of the Year Award.
Dick was a gracious man, full of integrity, great compassion and love for all people; he had a servant’s heart. He welcomed everyone with his warm smile. Dick was a blessing for countless people and families. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community, but we rejoice knowing he has been made whole and is receiving his eternal gift.
Dick is survived by his wife of 68 years, Vi Williams of Brownwood; children, Joan Martin and significant other Harlan Kraft of San Antonio, Gay Marie Isabel and husband Aaron of San Antonio, and Bruce Williams of Glen Rose; 5 grandchildren, Ashley, Ramsey, Tamara, Jacob, and Marshall; 3 great-grandchildren, Carter, Cooper, and Grace. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glyndwr and Hattie Williams; son, James Williams; daughter, Sandra Williams; 2 brothers; and 1 sister.
