Why are you running for office: I enjoy trying to improve Brown County
If elected, what changes will you implement:
My goal will be to rebuild the Shamrock Shores area roads at Lake Brownwood after Brookesmith SUD completes 15 miles of water lines and new meters. This project has been ongoing for over 2 years and has been in the planning stage for over 10 years. Frontier is also installing new fiber lines in the area as well that will need to be completed before roads are rebuilt.
Accomplishments:
- Since my last FEMA grant of $175,000 in 2007, I have procured a $7.3 million grant in 2015 and a $350,000 grant in 2017, totaling $7.8 million, the largest road project of all the precincts combined. The grants were administered by FEMA with roads designated by FEMA to rebuild about 40 miles of paved roads. I have also repaved a number of other roads as budget allows.
- Installed flood gauges on low water crossings.
- When I took office, all equipment was old and worn out. Today most of Precinct 4 equipment is only 1-6 years old and maintained in excellent condition to ensure they are ready to work. I have the best equipment of any precinct with very little debt.
- I worked with TxDOT to fix a dangerous intersection on the east side of Bangs by purchasing a small piece of land, north of highway across from Dollar General, to allow TxDOT to install better turning lanes to enter the highway safely. This intersection was known for several fatalities prior to this change.
- Voted to keep reliable ambulance services in the community and county.
- Voted to give all volunteer fire departments an allocation of funds each year.
- Fought to keep taxes as low as possible, as I am a taxpayer as well.
- Voted to keep the courthouse building in good condition and up to date with technology and safety.
- All this and much more, all while working with the entire county court to make Brown County better and safer.
