BrownwoodFightClubKTAB TV News & BigCountryHomePage.com did a feature report today on a disturbing trend among area youth.  ‘Fight Club’ style fighting can be dangerous and parents should be aware of this activity that some local youth are involved with.  KTAB’s Katherine Lane filed the following report in Brownwood as she spoke with youth who participate, and police regarding the subject.

“Instead of playing video games, we just do that for fun,” one of the members said.

He says he’s the one that shoots video of each fight, then posts it to Youtube. It started out with body hits, but eventually progressed into full-blown face punches.
“We don’t know, know what we’re doing,” another member said. “But we know when to stop.”

“It’s not that this is just bad light on the community,” Officer James Fuller, with the Brownwood Police Department, said. “This is dangerous.”

Officer Fuller says currently, no charges or complaints have been filed against those fighting in fields, parks, and backyards.

“As long as these folks are engaging in this willingly amongst themselves, the only act we could consider this would be is disorderly conduct,” Officer Fuller said.

One member said he’s received mix reactions about the fight videos.

“I think some people are in an uproar about it and they want it stopped,” he said. “The younger population is like, ‘hey, that’s cool, it’s alright, as long as they don’t kill each other.'”

They know the dangers, the supposed filmmaker says, but there are no plans to stop the violence.

“It’s really dangerous, we always take the beating,” he said. “But we risk it though.”

The supposed filmmaker tells KTAB there will be more fights on Saturday.
