Well I may have to back off from what I said a couple of weeks ago. I said, “Well, we will get through this opening round of the playoffs and forget football and basketball for a while and then we will come back and do them all at the same time”. Forget it. I can’t turn on the TV, the radio or anything else without getting football, basketball, whatever so I’ll go ahead and throw my two cents worth in.

I don’t have to give you anything else on football. In college football I took Indiana to win it all and I think they will do it. I picked Seattle to win what’s left, the Super Bowl in other words. I picked a whole bunch of people. So, here’s some high school basketball I’ll pick and I hate doing this early on the season although some are in the halfway point of District play.

Football is a little bit easier than basketball. Basketball is so hard to figure but I’ll give it a go. The Brownwood Lions, basketball wise, are in trouble. They don’t have a terribly good team to put on the floor. I don’t know why, but it’s one of those things. They lost to Stephenville by forty or fifty points at home. Stephenville, I don’t think, is the best team in the District, but we will see. Brownwood is going to have a tough time making the playoffs. They might, but it’s going to be tough.

On the girl’s side, they beat Stephenville by twenty two and they are a very good team! Heather Hoertz-Perez has one that’s put it all together. They are 23 and 3 (3-0) right now and have fifteen consecutive wins. They lost three games but they are head and shoulders the best team in the District. So hats off to the No. 9 Brownwood Lady Lions and come on playoffs!

The Early Longhorn boys’ team is not very good. It’s as simple as that. They have had a struggle. It’s been a struggle for them since the word “go”. They are below 500. The girls on the other hand are pretty solid. They will be in the top two or three and get into the playoffs.

So, that’s it. If you are a girls’ fan you’ve got a couple of good teams to grab hold of. I think one of them, the Brownwood Lions, may go a long way. That encourages me and fires me up and says, “Come on playoffs. It’s time right now”. Girls’ teams are the one to jump on board if you’re in the Brownwood area.

If you’re in the football deal. All I can tell you is that redistricting will come out in about two weeks. It’s the first week in February and we will find out what District we are going to be in, who we will be in there with, and so forth. It’s that close. Brownwood is considered – considered – to be one of the top 4A Division II programs in the State. At least they normally would be. They will have one of the biggest 4A Division II enrollments anywhere. The last couple of years they’ve played with pretty well the smallest enrollment and now they turn out to be a big enrollment school and I’m ready. They will be Division II. We don’t know where they will be yet but they will be Division II and it will be a test, trust me.

Until next time, so long everybody.
