James Emmitt Rankin, born on March 11, 1955, in Coleman, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 15, 2025.
James is preceded in death by his parents, R.L. Rankin and Bonnie Rankin, one brother, Derry Rankin, and his daughter-in-law, Heidi Rankin.
James is survived by his two sons, Keaton Rankin and wife Kelly of Coleman, and Derek Rankin of Ozark, Missouri. He took extraordinary pride in his family, cherishing moments spent with his adored grandchildren: Grace Newman, Cash Rankin, Rowdy Rankin, and his great-grandchild, Ariella Evans. His love for them was abundant and will always be remembered.
He also leaves behind his brothers, Jay Lee Rankin and wife Shirley of Coleman, and Terry Rankin of Coleman, and nephews and nieces who will carry forth his memories and legacy.

Growing up in Coleman, James graduated from Coleman High School in 1973. He was active in sports while also being named class favorite.
James devoted most of his career to working in the oil fields throughout Texas and Alaska, contributing his skills and dedication to this essential industry. In addition to his successful career in the oil fields, he embarked on a brief stint in the transportation industry, showcasing his hardworking nature and commitment to providing for his family.
When not working, James enjoyed a hobby in drag racing, working on cars and enjoying time at the racetrack with family and friends. He also cherished the times of watching Dallas Cowboys football and bonding with his two sons.
He will be deeply missed by all who’ve had the privilege of knowing him. He was a beloved figure in his community and will be remembered for his outgoing and loving personality.
At James’s request, no formal service will be held. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.
