Brookesmith Lady Mustangs 35, Rising Star 10

RISING STAR – The Class A No. 22 Brookesmith Lady Mustangs improved to 10-0 on the season with a 35-10 win over tournament host Rising Star Thursday.

Brookesmith led 20-1 after one quarter and at halftime, and 24-4 going to the fourth period.

The Lady Mustangs were sparked by 12 points from Ameriah Balleza, seven each from Maddie Johnson and Brooklyn Haby, five by Chloe Dye, and two points apiece by Emma Slayton and Ava Hathcock.

Tournament action continues Friday for the Lady Mustangs.

Blanket Tigers 45, Panther Creek 23

RISING STAR – The Blanket Tigers remained undefeated on the season with a 45-23 victory over Panther Creek Thursday to open the Rising Star tournament.

Blanket (7-0) led Panther Creek 16-8 after one quarter, 23-8 at halftime, and 33-18 going to the fourth period.

The Tigers received 24 points from Kannon Kensing, 11 from Mason Beck, and two points apiece from Brian Shannon, Alex Valdes, Albert Espinosa, Karter Keel and Cole Furry.

The Tigers are back in action Friday against Rochelle.

Zephyr Bulldogs 90, Santa Anna 31

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs started their own tournament Thursday with a 90-31 victory over Santa Anna.

Zephyr (5-3) opened a 23-7 advantage after one quarter that grew to 48-11 at halftime and stood at 74-15 through three periods.

Scoring for Zephyr were Reese Hamm with 24 points, Cooper Walls and Troy Kubin with 14 points apiece, Spencer Marwitz with 12, Bauer Blair with eight, CJ Byers and Quayde Heard with six each, Slade Butler with five, and Chayden Woodcock with one point.

The Bulldogs will face Gorman at 9 a.m. and Sidney at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Zephyr Lady Bulldogs 52, Santa Anna 23

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs defeated Santa Anna, 52-23, to open their own tournament Thursday.

Tied at 9 after one quarter, Zephyr grabbed a 17-13 halftime lead that increased to 39-15 through three frames.

The Lady Bulldogs received 24 points from Calyn Kubin, 12 from Kenlyn King, nine from Avery Stevens, three from Riley Hood, and two points each from Sydney Hobson and Kirstan King.

May Tigers 48, Brady JV 14

BRADY – The May Tigers cruised to a 48-14 victory over the Brady JV Thursday to start their Brady tournament schedule.

May (7-1) opened a 21-3 lead after one quarter, which grew to 31-5 at halftime and stood at 40-12 after three frames.

Scoring for May were Jackson Lusk with 11 points, Kaden Watkins with seven, Kobey Morris with six, Brody Stice with four, and Tyran Perry with three points.

The Tigers will face Blanco at noon and the San Angelo Central JV at 4:30 p.m. Friday as tournament action resumes.

Early Longhorns 70, Chilton 39

Little River Academy 79, Early Longhorns 57

HAMILTON – The Early Longhorns split their first two games at the Hamilton basketball tournament Thursday, defeating Chilton before falling to Little River Academy.

In a 70-39 win over Chilton, the Longhorns were in front 21-11 after one frame, 42-20 at the break, and 59-31 heading to the fourth period.

Zack Rumfield scored a team-high 21 points followed by 10 from Andrew Reedy, nine from Cooper Shults, eight from Ian Desai, six from Braiden Brown, five each from Angel Marquez and Dayton Zamora, and two apoints piece from Skyden Stoddart, Darryl Watkins and Rhett Williams.

In a 79-57 loss to Little River Academy, Early trailed 25-13 after one quarter, 44-29 at halftime, and 68-44 through three periods.

The Longhorns (4-6) received 10 points from Desai, nine each from Shults and Stoddart, seven from Rumfield, six apiece from Zamora and Reedy, four from Watkins, three from Williams, two from Brown, and one point from Marquez.

Goldthwaite 46, May Lady Tigers 37

BRADY – The May Lady Tigers stumbled in their Brady tournament opener Thursday, falling to the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles by a 46-37 count.

May trailed 16-5 after one quarter, 31-17 at halftime, and 40-24 heading to the fourth period.

The Lady Tigers received 13 points from Chloe Lord, 11 from Jordyn Gerhardt, six from Cortney Harper, five from McKenna Landes and two points from Aubree Gerhardt.

Rylee Greenway led Goldthwaite with 21 points followed by 15 from Kinley Howard.

May (10-4) will face Lampasas Friday in tournament action while Goldthwaite (5-7) battles Blanco.
