BrownwoodNews.com received the following press release Monday afternoon:

Tom Munson has entered the race for the Republican nomination for Brown County Judge in the March 3rd Primary.

Munson stated, “I have lived in Brown County with my wife Jamie for over 34 years. We were fortunate to raise our children in Brown County. Living here helped set a strong foundation for them to become productive adults and parents. Brown County also provided an ideal environment in which to grow our family business. I want to give back to the community that we call home by working to promote the continuing improvement of Brown County.”

Munson cited his experience as making him uniquely qualified to serve as county judge: “I have a long history of legal, business, and administrative experience. I am an attorney and a member of the State Bar of Texas with courtroom experience. I served as president and CEO of Landmark Life and Landmark Admin from 1996 to 2025. Prior to that as I was its general counsel. During that time, we were able to grow Landmark from a single state company to now serving approximately one million customers across the United States. That would not have been possible without a strong foundation and a great team of employees assembled from Brown and surrounding counties. I believe I can draw on this experience to help make Brown County a better place.”

“With time now to focus my efforts elsewhere, as your county judge it would be my honor and duty to continue to build on Brown County’s great strengths and make a positive difference for our community. I would greatly appreciate your support and your vote.”

Munson grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas, and graduated from Brazoswood High School. He obtained his BS in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1984 and worked in Houston as a reservoir and pipeline engineer for Transco. He obtained his license as a Professional Engineer in 1989. While working full-time, Tom studied law at The University of Houston and earned his JD and was admitted to the bar in 1989. He worked as a trial attorney with the firm of Woodard, Hall & Primm. In 1991 he moved with his family to Brownwood to join his father-in-law Putter Jarvis at Landmark Life Insurance Company. Munson served as Landmark’s general counsel until 1996 when he assumed the role as president and CEO. Munson continued in that role with Landmark Admin until 2025. He is now Landmark Admin’s CEO.

Tom served as Chairman/President of the Texas Association of Insurance Officials and Texas Association of Life and Health Insurers, and on the board of the Forum 500 of the American Council of Life Insurers. He was appointed to and served for years on the boards of both the Texas and Louisiana Life & Health Guaranty Associations, which are charged with handling insurance company insolvencies. Tom has also served with numerous local organizations.

Tom married Jamie Jarvis in 1984, and they have three children: Matt, Chris, and Courtney. Matt and his wife Ashley live in San Antonio with their son and daughter. Chris lives with his wife Claire and their 3 sons in Brownwood, and Courtney lives in Brownwood with her daughter.
