HOOPS ROUNDUP: May boys, girls combine for 3 wins; Blanket boys, Brookesmith girls also victorious

May Lady Tigers 57, Strawn 45

HUCKABAY – The May Lady Tigers tallied their third victory at the Huckabay tournament Friday, knocking off Strawn by a 57-45 count.

The Lady Tigers trailed 8-6 after one quarter, took a 26-18 lead at halftime, and carried a 36-28 advantage into the fourth period.

Jordyn Gerhardt sparked May with 21 points followed by 17 from Chloe Lord, eight from McKenna Landes, five from Lauren Hicks, four from Cortney Harper, and two points from Aubree Gerhardt.

The Lady Tigers are back in action Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Saint Jo and at 5 p.m. against host Huckabay.

May Tigers 56, Garner 29

May Tigers 55, Covington 35

HUCKABAY – The May Tigers remained undefeated with two more wins at the Huckabay tournament Friday.

In the first of their two games Friday, the Tigers rolled past Garner, 56-29.

May led 16-5 after one quarter, 26-13 at halftime, and 47-20 through three periods.

The Tigers received 24 points from Kobey Morris, 21 from Brody Stice, six from Tyran Perry, two each from Jackson Lusk and Mikey Scheriger, and one point from Kaden Watkins.

Against Covington, the Tigers jumped in front 20-7 after one quarter, led 29-14 at halftime, and owned a 44-20 edge through three periods.

Stice poured in 19 points trailed by Morris with 17, Lusk with six, Kayden Psencik with three, Scheriger and Perry with two each, and Watkins with one point.

May will next battle Saint Jo at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Blanket Tigers 38, Sidney 31

ROCHELLE – The Blanket Tigers moved to 5-0 on the season with a 38-31 win over Sidney Friday at the Rochelle tournament.

The Tigers led 8-6 after one quarter, 22-12 at halftime, and 33-23 heading into the fourth period.

Mason Beck scored 15 points for Blanket followed by 11 from Kannon Kensing, four from Brian Shannon, three from Leo Valdes, two each from Karter Keel and Cole Furry, and one point from Weston Chism.

Blanket will face either Rochelle or Rising Star in tournament action Saturday.

Brookesmith Lady Mustangs 42, Sidney 27

ROCHELLE – The Brookesmith Lady Mustangs notched another victory at the Rochelle tournament Friday, knocking off Sidney, 42-27.

The Lady Mustangs led -1 after one quarter, -4 at halftime, and -12 heading to the fourth period.

Brookesmith received 19 points from Brooklyn Haby, 15 from Ameriah Balleza, and eight points from Emma Slayton.

The Lady Mustangs are set to face Iraan Saturday when tournament play resumes.

Goldthwaite 33, Early Lady Horns 31

LLANO – The Early Lady Horns came up a bucket short of a second straight win at the Llano tournament, falling to the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles, 33-31, Friday.

Early fell behind 11-2 after one quarter, trailed 21-10 at halftime, and closed the gap to 28-22 heading to the fourth period.

The Lady Horns received 12 points from Avery Williams, 10 from Andie Simpson, five from Gabby Benson, and four points from Aliyah Harlan.

Goldthwaite was led by Rylee Greenway’s 13 points and 10 points from Kenley Howard.

Early will square off against Marble Falls at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for third place in the tournament.

Clifton 66, Early Longhorns 60

DUBLIN – The Early Longhorns were dealt a 66-60 loss by Clifton Friday at the Dublin tournament and will play for third place Saturday.

The Longhorns led 17-16 after one quarter and 29-27 at halftime, but fell behind 46-44 heading into the final frame, where Clifton pulled away.

Dayton Zamora paced Early with 16 points followed by 10 from Zack Rumfield, nine each from Rhett Williams and Andrew Reedy, six from Cooper Shults, five from Braiden Brown, four from Angel Marquez and one point from Ian Desai.

The Longhorns wrap up tournament play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
