
The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Friday afternoon:
The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a report at 12:31 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 of a structure fire in the attic at 1313 Avenue K in Brownwood. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the residence.
Prior to arrival of the fire department , the occupant began extinguishment with a garden hose. Brownwood Fire Department personnel made entry and found a small amount of fire remaining in the attic. The fire was extinguished quickly, and crews began to ventilate the house.
The fire caused blown in attic insulation to ignite and extensive debris removal was done to prevent re-ignition.
The fire was accidental in nature caused by faulty ceiling fan wiring. The fire caused extensive damage to the attic and living area.
The Red Cross was contacted and responded to the scene to assist the occupants.
No injuries were reported from the occupants, one firefighter received minor injuries and was treated and released on scene.
It took 9 minutes to extinguish the fire and crews were on scene for an hour and 57 minutes.
Damages are estimated at $40,000.
