Bettie Marie Woodard Scott

Bettie Marie Woodard Scott, age 94, of Brownwood went to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 8, 2016, with her son, Jack Scott, alongside her.

Graveside Services for Bettie will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Eastlawn Memorial Park with David Barnum officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.

Bettie was born on January, 17, 1922, to William “Jack” and Carrie (Bowles) Woodard in Asheville, N.C. She graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1939. After high school, she worked for Western Union as a teletype operator. Bettie married Samuel “Jake” Hayes Scott in Brownsville on July 9, 1943. They lived in Brownsville and Paris, Texas before moving to Brownwood.

Bettie was a member of First United Methodist Church. While a member there she was a member of Peggy Boone Bible Class and United Methodist Women. She also taught a children’s class until her boys were grown.

 

Bettie was very involved in her 4 boys’ lives and community, working with the Cub Scouts and a member of the PTA. She helped serve the American Red Cross; she helped with swim program and disaster teams. She was a member of the Garden Culture Club, the Variety Study Club, and AARP serving as Secretary and Treasurer.

She went to LVN school and worked at Memorial Hospital and later in Dr. Spence’s office. Bettie joined the Order of the Eastern Star on January 23, 1950, serving in various offices; she was Worthy Matron 3 times and District Deputy in 1997.

Bettie is survived by her son, John Woodard Scott and wife Carol of AR; daughter-in-law, Anita Scott of LA; grandchildren, John Scott, Jr., Chad Scott and wife Michelle, Chris Scott and wife Rebekah, Carrie Aggarwal, Hayli Henry and husband Heath, Tiffany Price and husband John; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Ty, and Lainey Scott, Luke, Allison, Sarah, and Emma Aggarwal, Zac and Jared Fulton, Jake-Allan and Tanner Cox, Karter Gross, Dylan and Carly Person, and Justin Price; sister, Louise Bell and husband Bill of N.C. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel “Jake” Scott; parents, Jack and Carrie Woodard; brother, William Woodard and wife Louise; sons, Bob Scott, David Scott, and Jack Scott; daughter-in-law, Kim Scott; and granddaughter, Marri Scott Fulton.
