SANTA ANNA – Seeking their first district championship since the 2021 run to the state championship game, the Class A Division I No. 3 May Tigers kicked off their District 14-A Division I slate with a 52-0 road victory over the Santa Anna Mountaineers Friday night.
Offensive standouts for May (7-1, 1-0) included Lane Goodson with 25 yards rushing and a touchdown, 33 yards receiving and a touchdown, and a punt return for a touchdown; Cayson Dail with 56 yards passing and two scoring tosses; Kobey Morris with 18 rushing yards and a score; Jackson Lusk with 12 yards rushing and a touchdown, and 20 receiving yards; Kayden Psencik with 16 rushing yards and a trip to the end zone; Mikey Scheriger with 22 rushing yards and 12 passing yards; and Brody Stice with a 3-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively for the Tigers, Goodson tallied six tackles followed by Psencik with five tackles and a fumble recovery, Scheriger with three tackles and an interception, Kaden Watkins with three tackles, Morris with two tackles and a fumble recovery, and Lusk with two tackles.
Stats for Santa Anna (3-5, 0-1) were not available.
Next week, May hosts Lometa (4-4, 0-1), which is coming off a 74-49 loss to Jonesboro (3-5, 1-0), which heads to Santa Anna.

Richland Springs 64, Panther Creek 6
RICHLAND SPRINGS – The Class A Division II No. 3 Richland Springs Coyotes handed the Panther Creek Panthers their first league loss and remained firmly atop the District 15-A Division II standings following a 64-6 decision Friday night.
Cohen Ethridge completed both of his pass attempts for 39 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also caught a 30-yard scoring toss from Ethan Deeds for Richland Springs (7-1, 2-0). Billy Perry tacked on a 46-yard touchdown rush and completed a 10-yard pass to Layne Ward, while Deeds caught a 36-yard scoring toss and rushed for a 19-yard touchdown as well. Eli Hutchins added a 3-yard touchdown catch.
Defensively, Richland Springs created four takeaways as Rush Norris recovered a pair of fumbles and Ethridge and Deeds each pounced on a loose ball as well. Deeds also recorded a safety, while Perry led the Coyotes with 11 tackles.
Stats for Panther Creek (5-4, 2-1) were not available.
Next week, Richland Springs hosts Rochelle (3-5, 2-0), which is coming off a 42-0 victory over Brookesmith (3-5, 0-3), while Panther Creek has its district bye.

Goldthwaite 54, Wortham 0
WORTHAM – The Goldthwaite Eagles moved back over the .500 mark in District 10-2A Division II action Friday night with a 54-0 road victory over the Wortham Bulldogs.
Goldthwaite (5-3, 3-2) surrendered just 22 yards of total offense to Wortham (1-7, 1-4) – 15 through the air and 7 on the ground – with one takeaway. Meanwhile, the Eagles generated 265 yards – 150 passing and 115 rushing.
Blake Howard connected on 7 of 11 passes for 150 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 55 yards and another score.
Aidyn Lee pulled down three receptions for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Talen Gardner caught two passes for 39 yards and scored once, Zach Rodriguez nabbed a 13-yard reception, and Casen Wiedebusch caught an 11-yard touchdown.
Wiedebusch also chipped in 22 yards on the ground and another touchdown, Owen Campbell rushed for a pair of scores and 18 yards, and Luke Patrick contributed 19 yards rushing.
Next week, Goldthwaite hosts Meridian (1-7, 1-4), which suffered a 70-0 loss to Mart (4-4, 3-2) Friday night.

San Saba 42, Harper 7
HARPER – The San Saba Armadillos rebounded from their first District 14-2A Division I loss with a 42-7 road triumph over the Harper Longhorns Friday night.
San Saba (5-3, 2-1) amassed 427 yards of total offense against Harper (4-4, 1-2), with 411 yards coming on the ground.
Luke Tharp led the charge with 219 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Jason Everett chipped in 112 yards on the ground and also scored twice. Enrique Mendoza added 43 yards and a rushing touchdown and Graden Lebow finished with 7 yards and crossed the goal line once.
Through the air, JJ Romero completed both of his pass attempts for 16 yards to Danny English.
Defensively for the Armadillos, Kaylub Roberts registered 13 tackles with six for loss, followed by 11 with four behind the line of scrimmage from Clayton Meador, and eight tackles each from Lebow and Melvin Umble.
Next week, San Saba plays host to Holland (1-7, 0-3), which was dealt a 51-0 loss by Mason (5-3, 3-0) Thursday night.

Rising Star 18, Sidney 12
SIDNEY – The Rising Star Wildcats collected their first District 13-A Division II victory of the season as they held off the Sidney Eagles, 18-12, Thursday night.
Rising Star (5-4, 1-2) was led offensively by Chance Wells, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, caught a 21-yard pass, threw an 8-yard pass, and kicked a 21-yard field goal.
Anthony Pollard finished with 77 yards rushing, 31 yards passing, and a 1-yard catch, while JV Kelly chipped in 46 yards on the ground, two receptions for 10 yards, and a 1-yard pass completion.
Defensive standouts for Rising Star included Leland Schenk with 12 tackles, Pollard with 10, Wells and Kason McGinn with seven each, Kelly with six and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, Brayan Lopez with two tackles, and Juakeen Froese with one takedown.
Stats for Sidney (2-6, 0-2) were not available.
Next week, Rising Star hosts Gustine (5-2, 1-1), which had a bye this week, while Sidney travels to Zephyr (7-1, 2-0), which is coming off a 30-20 win at Blanket (7-2, 2-1).

Hico 28, Coleman 27
COLEMAN – The Coleman Bluecats witnessed a double-digit second-half lead evaporate in the closing minutes as the Hico Tigers rallied for a 28-27 victory in District 5-2A Division I action Friday night.
Coleman (1-7, 0-3) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half and carried a 27-14 edge into the fourth quarter, where Hico (5-3, 1-2) scored twice to record a stunning victory.
The Bluecats finished with 194 yards of total offense – 120 passing and 74 rushing – with no turnovers.
Hunter Edington completed 6 of 11 passes for 120 yards with two touchdowns of 70 yards and 26 yards, both to Jayden Smith, but Coleman failed to convert an extra point after one of the touchdowns that proved to be the difference on the scoreboard.
Brayden Torres rushed for 44 yards and a 9-yard touchdown, while Paul Salas chipped in 30 yards on the ground and also scored from 20 yards out after Darren Hurtado blocked a Hico punt to result in the first points of the contest.
Defensively for the Bluecats, Micah Lackey tallied 17 tackles to lead the team trailed by 12 from Lane Bowers, 10 from Torres, nine from Hurtado, and seven tackles from Kyle Chambers.
Next week, Coleman hosts Ballinger (3-5, 0-3), which is coming off a 66-14 loss to De Leon (6-2, 3-0) in a battle of teams still seeking their first league win in 2025.

CROSS PLAINS – The Cross Plains Buffaloes were unable to slow down the District 7-2A Division II co-leading Albany Lions in a 42-0 decision Thursday night.
Cross Plains (3-5, 1-2) mustered just 147 yards of total offense – 94 rushing and 53 passing – with three turnovers, while Albany (6-2, 3-0) finished with 339 yards – 189 through the air and 150 on the ground – without a turnover.
Tyler Mackey rushed for 51 yards and a caught a 26-yard pass, Landry Savell passed for 53 yards and rushed for 36 yards, Kye Schuman chipped in 25 yards on the ground, and Rylen Reed and Colter Wedeking caught passes of 16 and 11 yards, respectively, for the Buffaloes.
Defensively, Schuman tallied seven tackles followed by Reed and Brody Harris with six apiece, and Anson Long with five tackles.
Next week, Cross Plains hosts the other District 7-2A Division II co-leader Hamlin (7-1, 3-0), which downed Miles (1-7, 0-3) by a 28-0 count Friday night.

COMANCHE – The Comanche Indians remained winless in District 5-3A Division II action, falling to the Breckenridge Buckaroos, 26-22, in a game that started Friday night and ended Saturday afternoon.
Comanche (3-5, 0-3) finished with 235 yards of total offense against Breckenridge (3-5, 1-2) – 163 passing and 72 rushing – with four turnovers.
Cooper Welch completed 7 of 13 passes for 163 yards but was picked off four times. CT Buford caught four passes for 89 yards, Dallas Gillette made a 55-yard reception, and Fernando Patino tallied a 22-yard grab.
On the ground, Ladanian Smith rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown and Zaden Tello tacked on 13 yards and a score.
Defensively, Buford intercepted three passes and returned one for a touchdown, while Adrian Reyes compiled 21 tackles, Adrian Reyes tallied 14, and Elijah Ozuna finished with 10 tackles.
Next week, Comanche visits San Angelo TLCA (0-8, 0-3), which is coming off a 50-0 loss to Jim Ned (7-1, 3-0).
