BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers kicked off District 13-A Division II action with their sixth consecutive victory, upending the Gustine Tigers, 57-12, Friday night.
All 387 yards of total offense for Blanket (6-1, 1-0) came on the ground against Gustine (4-2, 0-1) as Kannon Kensing rushed for 223 yards and five touchdowns and Mason Beck tacked on 164 rushing yards and three scores.
Defensively for Blanket, Kensing tallied 12 tackles followed by Beck with 11, Karter Keel with nine and a fumble recovery, Brian Shannon with eight tackles, Brayden Cain with seven, Kade Russell with five, and Ethan Tomme with two tackles.
Next week, Blanket ventures to Rising Star (4-3, 0-1), which is coming off a 53-8 loss to Zephyr (6-1, 1-0).

Zephyr 53, Rising Star 8
ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs’ bid for a fourth straight district championship began Friday night with a 53-8 victory over the Rising Star Wildcats in the 13-A Division II opener for both squads.
Zephyr (6-1, 1-0) limited Rising Star (4-3, 0-1) to a total of -5 yards of offense – 2 through the air and -7 on the ground – with a pair of takeaways.
Offensively, the Bulldogs compiled 279 yards – 190 rushing and 89 passing – with one turnover.
Chayden Woodcock fueled the rushing attack with 115 yards and five touchdowns while Quayde Heard chipped in 47 yards on the ground and CJ Byers ran for 36 yards.
Heard also completed 5 of 10 passes for 89 yards with a 17-yard touchdown to Byers.
Bauer Blair added a 28-yard reception, Woodcock caught a 21-yard pass and Jetson Gowin finished with a team-high two grabs for 23 yards.
Defensively, Byers and Troy Kubin led Zephyr with six tackles each, while Byers also recovered a fumble and Woodcock intercepted a pass.
Zephyr is off next week, and returns to action Friday, Oct. 24 at Blanket (6-1, 1-0), which knocked off Gustine (4-2, 0-1) by a 57-12 count in its league opener Friday night.

May 60, Rocksprings 0
MAY – The Class A Division I No. 3 May Tigers wrapped up non-district action with their sixth victory in seven outings, blanking the Rocksprings Angoras, 60-0, Friday night.
The Tigers (6-1) scored three times on defense as Jackson Lusk returned an interception 16 yards for a touchdown and also had a scoop and score following a fumble recovery, while Kobey Morris chipped in a 42-yard pick six against Rocksprings (3-4).
Offensively, Lane Goodson rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown, Mikey Scheriger contributed 36 yards on the ground and scored once, Kobey Morris added 25 rushing yards with a trip to the end zone, and Lusk picked up 23 yards on the ground and crossed the goal line once. Kayden Psencik also tacked on 29 rushing yards.
Scheriger led May with six tackles followed by five from Goodson, four each from Morris, Lusk and Psencik, and two tackles apiece by Britton Morrow and JD Harrell.
May has a bye next week, then kicks off District 14-A Division I action on Friday, Oct. 24 at Santa Anna (3-4), which is coming off a 28-20 victory over Woodson (0-7).

San Saba 47, Johnson City 21
SAN SABA – The San Saba Armadillos stretched their win streak to three in the District 14-2A Division I opener Friday night with a 47-21 home triumph over the Johnson City Eagles.
San Saba (4-2, 1-0) finished with 332 yards of total offense – all coming on the ground – as Luke Tharp tallied 163 yards and three touchdowns, and also returned a kick 82 yards for a touchdown as well.
Jason Everett tacked on 109 rushing yards with two trips to the end zone, Enrique Mendoza added 31 yards and crossed the goal line once, and Graden Lebow chipped in 29 yards on the ground against Johnson City (3-3, 0-1).
Defensively, Everett led the way with eight tackles and a sack along with seven tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery by Clayton Meador; six tackles and a sack by Kaylub Roberts; six tackles from Tharp; five tackles and a sack by Lebow; and five tackles with three for loss by Kolton Pierce. Cash Bryant intercepted a pass and added a pair of tackles as well.
Next week, San Saba hosts Thorndale (3-3, 0-1), which is coming off an 18-0 loss to Mason (3-3, 1-0).

Goldthwaite 42, Frost 0
FROST – The Goldthwaite Eagles secured their second consecutive District 10-2A Division II victory and handed the Frost Polar Bears their first loss of the season, 42-0, Friday night.
Goldthwaite (4-2, 2-1) generated 353 yards of total offense – 220 passing and 133 rushing – and overcame three turnovers, while Frost (5-1, 2-1) mustered just 77 yards – 44 through the air and 33 on the ground – and also coughed up the ball three times.
Blake Howard completed 15 of 16 passes for 220 yards with three touchdowns, while Landry Sanderson chipped in 124 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Aidyn Lee caught eight passes for 93 yards, Casen Wiedebusch hauled in a 54-yard scoring reception, Zach Rodriguez tallied three grabs for 42 yards, Talen Gardner notched two catches for 19 yards and scored twice, and Sanderson pulled down a 12-yard reception.
Defensively, Wiedebusch returned an interception for a Goldthwaite score.
Next week, the Eagles host No. 3 Bremond (6-0, 3-0), which is coming off a 53-0 victory over Meridian (1-5, 1-2).

RICHLAND SPRINGS – The Class A Division II No. 3 Richland Springs Coyotes registered a 69-0 victory over the Brookesmith Mustangs Friday night in the District 15 opener for both teams.
Richland Springs (5-1, 1-0) manufactured 239 total yards – 170 rushing and 69 passing – against Brookesmith (3-4, 0-1) as Billy Perry rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 31 yards and another score, while Cohen Ethridge threw a 33-yard touchdown pass and caught a 9-yard touchdown pass.
Evan Deeds added a 45-yard touchdown on the ground and passed for a 5-yard score, while Ethan Deeds rushed for a 15-yard touchdown and caught a 5-yard score.
Layne Ward contributed a 33-yard scoring reception and rushed for 17 yards while Brice Roesler ran for a 7-yard touchdown and caught a 24-yard pass. Trenton Vogel finished with 28 yards on the ground, and Dalton Moats hauled in a 28-yard reception.
Stats for Brookesmith were not available.
Next week, Richland Springs has a Thursday non-district contest scheduled at Leander Founders Classical Academy (6-1) which is coming off its first loss to Marble Falls Faith Academy, 70-48. Meanwhile, Brookesmith hosts District 15-A Division II rival Panther Creek (4-3, 1-0), which collected a 49-0 victory over Lohn (3-4, 0-1) Friday.

VALERA – The Panther Creek Panthers ended a two-game slide as they opened the District 15-A Division II portion of their schedule with a 49-0 victory over the Lohn Eagles Thursday night.
Panther Creek (4-3, 1-0) generated 300 yards of total offense – 211 rushing and 89 passing – against Lohn (3-4, 1-0) as Caleb Story rushed for 115 yards and three scores and Adan Wyatt finished with 81 yards on the ground and a pair of touchdowns.
Caleb Hale passed for 89 yards and two scores as Blayde Wilbur hauled in a 24-yard touchdown, Story finished with two grabs for 17 yards with a trip to the end zone, and Aidan Patterson led the team with three receptions for 44 yards.
Defensively for the Panthers, Storey recorded nine tackles and recovered a fumble, Adan Wyatt logged nine tackles and intercepted a pass, Patterson finished with four tackles, Carter Vogel tallied three tackles, and Trevor Brooks notched two tackles and a safety.
Next week, Panther Creek visits Brookesmith (3-4, 0-1), which suffered a 69-0 loss to Richland Springs (5-1, 1-0) Friday night.

Santa Anna 28, Woodson 20
WOODSON – The Santa Anna Mountaineers wrapped up their pre-district slate with a 28-20 double-overtime victory over the Woodson Cowboys Friday night.
Santa Anna (3-4) finished with 361 yards of total offense – 196 rushing and 165 passing – against Woodson (0-7).
Brock Brown completed 7 of 17 passes for 165 yards with touchdowns of 4 and 58 yards to Jeremiah Davila, who finished with five catches for 123 yards. Kain Watson added a 30-yard reception and Eddie York grabbed a 12-yard pass.
On the ground, Jayden Gibson rushed for 136 yards while Jordan Diggs finished with 30 yards and a 2-yard score and Watson chipped in 22 yards and a 9-yard touchdown.
Defensively, Brown led Santa Anna with 21 tackles followed by nine from Davila, eight from Watson, seven from Tony Blaine, five from Diggs, and three from Gibson. Davila also picked off two passes and Watson and Blaine each recovered a fumble.
The Mountaineers have a bye next week, then open District 14-A Division I action on Friday, Oct. 24 at home against No. 3 May (6-1), which blanked Rocksprings, 60-0, Friday night.

Jim Ned 56, Comanche 3
TUSCOLA – In a battle of two of three District 3-3A Division I tri-champions from a year ago, the No. 7 Jim Ned Indians exacted revenge on the Comanche Indians, 56-3.
Comanche (3-3, 0-1) was limited to just 167 total yards – 120 passing and 47 rushing – by the Jim Ned (5-1, 1-0) defense.
Cooper Welch completed 11 of 14 passes for 120 yards, but was picked off twice. CT Buford caught seven passes but was held to just 19 yards and Fernando Patino grabbed four receptions for 101 yards.
On the ground, Ladanian Smith mustered 32 yards and Zaden Tello picked up 15 yards.
Defensively for the Indians, Smith led the way with 11 tackles followed by 10 each from Buford, Adrian Reyes and Elijah Ozuna, who also recovered a fumble.
Comanche will attempt to bounce back next week at 2024’s other district tri-champion Sweetwater (2-4, 1-0), which pummeled San Angelo TLCA (0-6, 0-1) by a 69-0 count Friday.

Hamilton 38, Coleman 7
COLEMAN – The Coleman Bluecats were upended by the defending District 5-2A Division I champion Hamilton Bulldogs, 38-7, Friday night in the league opener for both teams.
Coleman (1-5, 0-1), which was dealt a fifth consecutive setback, produced just 121 yards of total offense – 67 passing and 54 rushing – against Hamilton (4-2, 1-0).
Jayden Smith caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Torres to account for the Bluecats’ lone trip to the end zone.
Hunter Edington competed 10 of 17 passes for 59 yards as Kyle Chambers caught a team-best two passes for 11 yards. Jett Black added a 22-yard reception and Paul Salas hauled in a 16-yard catch.
Salas also rushed for a team-best 42 yards for Coleman.
Defensively, Torres and Easton Meador led the Bluecats with 10 tackles apiece followed by eight from Darren Hurtado and seven each from Brady Elder and Gio Villanueva.
Next week, Coleman ventures to De Leon (4-2, 1-0), which opened district with a 56-27 win over Hico (4-2, 1-0) Friday night.

CROSS PLAINS – In their District 7-2A Division II opener, the Cross Plains Buffaloes were kept out of the win column as the Roscoe Plowboys tallied their first victory of the 2025 campaign, 33-14.
Cross Plains (2-4, 0-1) finished with only 185 yards of total offense – 121 rushing and 64 passing – while Roscoe (1-5, 1-0) produced 323 yards – 242 on the ground and 81 through the air.
Tyler Mackey rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Buffaloes and Landry Savell tacked on 21 yards on the ground and reached the end zone once.
Savell also completed 3 of 11 passes for 64 yards as Mackey hauled in two receptions for 54 yards and Brandan Jones added a 10-yard catch.
Defensively, Colt Sanderson, Rylen Reed and Brody Harris led Cross Plains with nine tackles apiece. Colter Wedeking chipped in eight tackles and Anson Long, Kye Schuman and Savell, who intercepted a pass, each recorded five tackles.
Next week, Cross Plains journeys to Miles (1-5, 0-1), which fell to Albany (4-2, 1-0) by a 48-0 count Friday night.
