Jeanette Faye Chew, age 96, of Voca, Texas, passed away Monday, October 6, 2025, in San Angelo. Jeanette was born on December 24, 1928, in Whon, Texas, to Jim Ramsey and Alma (Behrens) Ramsey. She grew up in Voca and was a proud graduate of the Voca High School. When Jeanette was 15 years old, she met a lady one evening at one of the Voca Community Sing-along events. She was so taken with Jeanette, she mailed a picture of her to her son, who was away, serving in WW II. They became pen pals, and she met him in person when he returned home. That man was Gene Chew, and they were married on July 3, 1946, in Brady. She loved to sing and fish. She worked for AVON as a District Manager for over 25 years. She enjoyed traveling, collecting AVON bottles, and attending “game nights” in Brady with her friends. She was always “dressed to the nines” whenever she was in public. She adored her grandchildren, and she was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Voca. She was a lifelong resident of the Voca Community.

Funeral services for Jeanette Chew will be held at 3:00pm Friday, October 10, 2025, at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Reverend Kenneth Barr officiating. Interment will follow at Voca Cemetery in Voca. The family will be receiving friends Friday afternoon, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm prior to the service at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Friends may view and/or sign Jeanette’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.

Jeanette is survived by her loving daughters, Ouita Brightwell of Brady and Barbara Freeman of Voca; sister LaRue George of Brownwood; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, nine brothers and seven sisters. Memorial contributions in memory of Jeanette Faye Chew may be made to the Voca Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 113, Voca, TX 76887 and/or Voca Community Center, P. O. Box 7, Voca, TX 76887.
