J.L. Chasteen

J L Chasteen, age 57, of Blanket, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00PM on Friday, October 3, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services for J L will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, October 4, at Salt Creek Baptist Church in Early. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

J L was born on August 12, 1968 in Brownwood, to Jewel Lavelle Chasteen and Wanda Furgason. He married the love of his life, Mona Chasteen, and they built a beautiful life together. J L was a hard worker and was the top salesman at Forney for 23 years.

J L was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He was a world champion archer and shot professionally for Mathews World Championship in bow fishing. He was proud of the bow fishing boat that he built with his sons and that gave him many years of great memories. J L enjoyed hunting and had shot the sixth largest antelope in the world. He also enjoyed sitting on the dock feeding the fish in the tank, sitting on the porch overlooking his property and riding around the property on the ranger with his wife. He liked arm wrestling, karaoke and was a proud country boy that was most comfortable in an old t-shirt, jeans, boots and a ball cap. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers.

J L is survived by, his wife, Mona Chasteen; his mother, Wanda Furgason; children, TJ Chasteen (Dominque Suentzenich), Ashton Quackenbush (Brett), Kaeden Chasteen (Shelbi Bell), Skylar Chasteen (Sadie), Alissa Poorkiyani (Kamdin), Jordan Chasteen (Jordan) and Carlee Sandoval (Eusebio); 10 grandchildren; his siblings, Cindy, Stephanie, Angie, Tedde, Patty, John, Jaeleen and Debbie, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends.

J L was preceded in death by his father, LaVelle Chasteen; step-mother, Gwen and step-father, Jay.
