The Texas Department of Public Safety shared the following information:
At approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper attempted to stop a white Ford work pickup truck for a traffic violation as it traveled north on US 83, near the south side of Tuscola, Texas. The driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. While continuing north on US 83, the driver lost control in a slight curve, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, travel through a drainage ditch, and enter the Lowe’s grocery store parking lot. The truck struck several objects, overturned, and came to rest on the railroad tracks north of the parking lot. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Hendrick Hospital.
Further investigation into the crash revealed that the pickup truck driven by Jeremy Clarence Morgan, 29, of Brady, was reported stolen out of Concho County earlier today. Morgan remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. He faces multiple charges related to this morning’s incident, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention in a vehicle, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and possession of marijuana. Criminal charges will be filed against Morgan when, and if, he recovers from his injuries.
