According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a one-vehicle accident that resulted in incapacitating injuries took place at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 on FM 2273, a half-mile west of US 183, south of May.

The DPS report states a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck, driven by Casey Childs of May, drove out of the travel lane to the left, striking the bridge railing. The vehicle overturned end over end, vaulting over the bridge railing, coming to rest in a ditch. The driver exited the pickup, which caught on fire and was completely engulfed. Investigators learned that the driver was reported to have fallen asleep, which caused the crash, the DPS added.
