James Rudolph “Rudy” Ballard, 85, of Brownwood, Texas, passed away on August 20, 2025, in Abilene, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Brownwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Brownwood Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.

Rudy was born on June 23, 1940, in San Angelo, Texas, to Eddie and Tinnie Velma Ballard. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Rudy married Kay, with whom he shared five children, and later spent the rest of his life with his beloved wife, Carrie.

A familiar face at the Brownwood Senior Citizens Center, Rudy enjoyed being part of every activity and never missed a chance to visit with his friends. He loved gardening and was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Tinnie Velma Ballard; six brothers; three sisters; and his daughter, Joyce Ballard.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Ballard; his former wife, Kay Kelley, mother of his children; his sons, James Ballard and Anthony Ballard; daughters, Michelle Ballard, Amy Ballard, and Misti Marney; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. His love and kindness will live on through the many lives he touched.
Services are under the direction of Brownwood Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.brownwoodfuneralhome.net
