
Goldthwaite’s Walt Thompson placed second, and Brownwood’s Peyton Sharp finished in seventh place in the 15-18 Boys Draw at the two-day, 36-hole West Texas Junior Golf Tour Championship tournament, which concluded Tuesday at The Hideout.
Thompson, the 2024 and 2025 UIL Class 2A boys golf state champion, finished with a 36-hole hole total of 4-under par 140, one stroke behind Sonora’s Dylan Ford (139) – the 2023 Class 2A boys golf state champion, who will be attending Lubbock Christian University.
Thompson opened the tournament with a round of 68 Monday and carried a two-stroke lead into Tuesday, where he carded a round of 72.
Sharp finished with a two-day total of 158, opening with a round of 78 Monday followed by an 80 Tuesday.
Other local golfers competing included Brownwood’s Sheriff Jones, who came in fourth in the 13-14 Boys Draw with a 36-hole total of 162. Jones fired rounds of 81 both days of the tournament.
Also, Nathan Reinlasoder of Bangs placed 20th with a 216 total with rounds of 96 and 120.
In the 10-12 Boys Draw, Brownwood’s Leander Martin came in fourth as well with a total of 82 in nine-hole action. Martin started the tournament with an 40 and closed with a round of 42.
And in the 8-9 Co-Ed Draw, Rhett Hoskinson of May placed 11th with a score of 122 as he shot a 63 trailed by a 59 in nine-hole competition.
