Buena R. Collins, age 92, passed away on July 25, 2025. Buena was born on December 11, 1932, at her home in Lamkin, Texas, to Roscoe and Jewell White. Her school years began in Lamkin and later continued in Pottsville. Her last two years were spent at Gustine High School. Buena was awarded many honors and was an outstanding basketball player.

She married Wade Collins on June 18, 1950. Buena was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gustine.

Buena became the Postal Clerk at Gustine in 1966. Later she became Officer in Charge and was soon promoted to Postmaster. Retirement from the Postal Service came in 1992. When asked what she missed most after retirement, she replies, “The People.”

A woman unbound by age, able to have fun and be funny, and intent on feeding her family could be said about her. She was a good wife, Mama and Nanny. She surely finished her work on Earth well and the memories of her life will bless many.

Buena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wade; sisters, Dorothy Nell White, Cloy Moore, Jo Rae Compton, and Janice Willingham; brothers, Junius (Son) White, and James White.

The family left behind, which she treasured above all else were her daughter, Debbie and her husband David Winters of Gustine; two grandchildren and their spouses, Angela and Stephen Southern of Temple and Luke and Jaime Winters of Amarillo. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Collin S. Southern of Temple, Mallory K. and Daphne R. Winters of Amarillo, and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at the Heartland Funeral Home in Comanche, Texas on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Her body will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Gustine. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 starting at 10:00 a.m.
