A graveside funeral service with military honors for George Richard Marshall, age 78, of Early, Texas, will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in the Midlothian Cemetery, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Richard passed from this life on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Brownwood.

George Richard “Dick” Marshall was born on October 20, 1946, in Easton, Pennsylvania, to George W. Marshall and Marion(Fisher) Marshall of Belvidere, New Jersey. He was a devoted husband of 53 years to Billy Ann (Wood) Marshall and a loving father to Tenley Ann Marshall Escoffery and late step son (d.2001) Lonnie Waldrop.

Richard grew up in Belvidere and spent many of his days on the family farm and river. He milked cows, delivered newspapers, and worked at the Marshall Farm and Market in Delaware, New Jersey until August 1967 when he entered the US Navy. Richard served his country aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA42). When he came home in1969, he returned to working on the farm. Throughout the rest of his life he lived and worked in New Jersey and Texas, working as a butcher for Kroger and A&P grocery stores. He was hard working and dedicated to anything he touched. Richard had many hobbies and interests that helped define who he was. He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He recently discovered the art of leathercrafting, often spending a great deal of his time working away in the garage shop. His love for making with his hands and heart was something he shared with everyone around him, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.

Though Richard may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. His daughter and her husband were the light of his life. His smile was one of the warmest and gentlest smiles you will ever come across! He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, and had a great love of “neighbors that became family” and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Richard is survived by wife Billy Ann Marshall, daughter Tenley Ann Marshall Escoffery and her husband Eric; a sister and brother-in-law and two nephews, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:https://www.parkinson.org/  a cause close to Dad’s heart.

We find comfort in knowing that Richard’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever. May you be Forever Young.

Condolences, memories, and tributes can be offered to the Marshall family online at heartlandfuneralhome.com
