Following the successful completion of Central Texas College’s 24-week
Basic Peace Officer Course, Timothy J. Harrell has officially begun his law enforcement career
as a deputy with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office. He was one of more than 30 cadets honored
at the Police Academy graduation ceremony at the CTC campus.
For Harrell, this accomplishment was more than professional. It was deeply personal.
“It’s been a lifelong dream of mine since I was a kid to follow in my grandpa’s footsteps of
being a deputy sheriff,” he said. “It just shows that if you want something badly enough and you
work hard enough, you can achieve your dreams.”
Harrell said he has always been drawn to a life of service, and law enforcement offered him a
direct opportunity to make a meaningful difference. The decision to enroll in Central Texas
College’s academy was fueled by the program’s reputation for hands-on training and values-
based instruction.
Among the most demanding parts of the course, Harrell pointed to the defensive driving
component, particularly during high-speed exercises.
“The most challenging part of the defensive driving course was maintaining precision and
control during high-speed maneuvers,” he said. “It really pushed my reaction time and ability to
stay calm under pressure.”
Harrell added that the driving practice sessions organized by instructors played a key role in
helping cadets prepare for advanced scenarios and emphasized the real-world value of the skills
taught throughout the course.
“The advanced driving techniques will be crucial for safe and effective patrol, pursuit, and
emergency response, protecting both myself and the public,” Harrell said. “Fingerprint lifting
might seem minor, but that kind of detail helps build strong cases.”
What resonated most with him, however, was the academy’s commitment to teaching
professionalism and ethics.

“The biggest impact has been the emphasis on ethics and de-escalation,” Harrell said. “Being a
good officer isn’t just about enforcing laws. It’s about serving the community with integrity,
compassion, and sound judgment.”
Harrell encourages others considering a similar path to approach the experience with an open
mind and full commitment.
“Be prepared for a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience,” said Harrell who was
elected as the class president by other cadets. “It demands discipline, dedication, and a strong
work ethic. Be ready to push your limits, physically and mentally, and embrace the camaraderie
with your fellow recruits.”
During the ceremony, CTC Chancellor Dr. Michele J. Carter presented each graduate with a
certificate and Chancellor’s Coin. FBI Special Agent Daniel Tichenor served as keynote speaker,
offering words of inspiration for the next generation of peace officers.
The CTC Police Academy is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
and is recognized statewide for its comprehensive curriculum that prepares cadets for the
realities of public service.

Additionally, Brownwood Police Department hired  Officer Ariel Sneed, another graduate from CTC Police Academy.
